It’s not because President’s Day, or those week-long winter breaks for most schools giving parents a chance to catch up on those checkups.
February is the favorite month out of the year for dentists because of the dental health awareness theme throughout the entire month.
As we’ve learned in this post, every February the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month.
The ADA helps spread the optimal oral health the awareness message for kids and parents alike.
During the entire month, ADA sponsored events bring together dentists, hygienists, healthcare providers, and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers and many others.
How can dentists not love an entire month dedicated to children’s dental health?
This one is obvious, who wants a jacked up smile or bad breath on Valentine’s Day?
Around the country we saw dentists giving 2 for 1s, BOGO deals, smile makeover promotions, and warning people of certain bad breath foods to avoid at that special dinner.
If ever there were a holiday that is especially dental-centric, Valentine’s Day takes the crown…
Did you know candy can give you bad breath?
These questions will still go unanswered, because now that February is over so is all of the smile improvement sweet-smelling kissable breath chatter.
We’ll nary see a sweet tooth story or BOGO whitening deal from our dutiful dentists…at least until next year.

Pet Dental Health Month is sponsored by the American Veterinary Medial Association.
The obvious aim is to raise awareness by delivering the message that pet dental health is an important part of maintaining overall health for our furry family members, and reminds us pet owners that brushing our pet’s teeth is good for their health and our wallets.
Preventive dental care – both for ourselves and our pets – actually SAVES us money in the long run by catching small problems before they become bigger more expensive ones.
Just like in people, when the inflammation and infection associated with gum disease starts off in the mouth it can have a systemic effect throughout the entire body.
A whole DAY dedicated to the Tooth Fairy!?!
Yes, National Tooth Fairy Day happens to fall on the last day of February this year – the 28th.
A day this elusive and mysterious sawbuck-swapping tooth-toting temptress gets even more recognition for running nothing more than a pediatric pawn shop for children’s teeth.
Did you know the average take per tooth for this so-called Tooth Fairy was $3.70 per tooth in 2013 – think incisor inflation has reduced that benchmark.
But why would dentists care?
Because THEY might be the ones secretly funding this Tooth Fairy cash for teeth scheme.
No, it’s not the weather, it’s because February is the most dental-centric month of the year.
Dentists love it that February brings us a double-down dose of dental health awareness, but that glee is quickly replaced by gloom when March comes blowing in like a lion.
The bottom line is this, dentists hate to see February go because it’s the shortest month of the year with at least 4 separate & distinct opportunities for them to climb up on the dental health pulpit to dispense with the prevention proclamations.
And we LOVE ‘EM for it!
BTW…as of the writing of this post, we’re smack dab in the middle of Dental Assistants Recognition Week. So even though February is done and gone, we can all rejoice & smile again – together…with our dentists!
